MOODS & MESSES
In the last Living Between Worlds zoomsalon of the year, we reflected on the changes the last two years have brought —in the world, and in our selves. And we explored how we move through the messes—tangles that are far more complex than “problems” with “solutions”—that face us. This video (and the entire series) is now available on my YouTube channel. (While you’re there, please subscribe, so you can get automatic notices of new postings.)

WHEN PHYSICS MEETS POLITICS
The EU is in the midst of a mess we’ll all face at some point. The rising carbon prices needed to “price in” the real costs of fossil fuels meets the realpolitik of countries concerned about the impact on their poorer residents…and their coal industries. My perspective: you don’t protect the poor by distorting markets—especially not in ways that will hurt them even more by exacerbating climate change. You do it through directed transfer payments and, OMG, by reducing poverty? (Financial Times: EU leaders battle over carbon price as energy costs soar.)

WHAT I’M READING
For your reading list—and gift list—here are some of the books I’m reading, and have mentioned in our Living Between Worlds calls. (If you order these links, I get a small referral commission. But if you’d rather not feed the beast, that’s fine with me too.)

QUOTES OF THE WEEK
“If you worry, you don’t have to worry. And if you don’t worry, you have to worry.” – Ray Dalio

“Don’t fear failure. Not failure, but low aim, is the crime. In great attempts it is glorious even to fail.”  – Bruce Lee

One of the great mysteries of the ages: “why the many so often give up power to the few.” – Kara Cooney

TRIMTAB FOR TRIMTABS
My coaching offer or leaders and emerging leaders is evolving. Here’s the latest:

You’re a trimtab—the small rudder that turns the big rudder that turns a ship so big that the big rudder is impossible to move directly. That’s what you do—you find the ways to turn the ship. I help you find ways to turn _you_.

If you’ve ever wondered about working with me one-on-one, this would be a good time to have a look!

In solidarity (and with best wishes for the holiday season and the new year),
Gil
